September 2015 Work Planning
« on: September 02, 2015, 05:57:41 AM »
Anticipated work for weekend of September 5 (Labor Day weekend):

* Car barn: Continue on the roof.  Zack may be ready to put up the door posts.
* Loco 9: Marcel mentioned he might be ready to put the cab on this weekend.

Work weekend is now a little more than a month away!

Yup. Will also love to see roof done, cab mounted, even if Monday may be a WW&F work holiday.  ;)
Would it be wiser to hold off on barn door post work until after interior grubbing/grading, trackwork is complete?
However,  Shoreline Trolley Museum put up doors on their two new above-flood car barns before inside work was done.

Doors probably won't go on until after track is in.  That's my guess.

Can installation announcement a bit premature here- what will likely happen is the test fitting of many individual cab components though.

Work done on Saturday Sept 5.  Volunteers were a little light on the ground.

* Car barn - Two door posts were raised, the ones between the western and middle bays.  Zack then spent the remainder of the day putting in purlins between the two and making sure they were both stable.  The tractor bucket was used to raise the posts.
* Strimming - Dwight trimmed from end of track down the hill a ways.
* Loco 9 - No cab installation.  Marcel showed up mid-afternoon to work on it, he still had some work to do on some uprights.
* Earth moving - Stewart redistributed some earth from some of the big piles that Brendan left to where the switches will go for the car barn/woods track.
* Archives - I spent part of the day babysitting software installations on our new archives computer: Windows (on a Mac), Past Perfect, and Mac Office.  I was very impressed at how easy it was to install Windows 10 on the virtual machine (after doing it on my personal machine).

A day or two early, but Saturday I WILL be building the loading ramp, loading the other ramp and taking it and the Excavator North. Hoping to accomplish this before the Diesel is needed for the train. I will need a brakeman or engineer, so I can get this set up and start digging after lunch. It is crunch time to get this done before the work weekend. Next weekend, the 19th, the Dozer will go North.

I would like to get some grade work done North from the Top of the mountain. Giving the potential to also lay track up there. Main focus for the work weekend will be the track into the car barn, but I want some main line ready in case the crew has time. If I can't get up there this weekend, I will not have time to get it done, and won't bother to try.

The diesel will be needed for charter preparations by 11am.  We don't really have any lee way on it, I'm sorry to say.

I don't know- maybe 12...  We'll try to make it all happen.  Need to follow through on the charter obligations, is all.

If you leave early enough and pack a lunch, you could drive the Kabota to TOM. Just watch out going over the brook trestle.

I remember the charter and am anticipating that. I would like to have everything done prior to the first train. But there is a lot to do. May just have to cancel any work up there due to timing.

Anticipated work for weekend of September 12

* Board meeting - Friday at 4:30
* Car barn - put up the second set of door posts.
* Loco 9
* Machinery move - Mike would like to build a ramp at Sheepscot to get the Kubota on a flatcar, and get it to the north end to get it off in prep for grading
* Mass Bay RRE charter - Mass Bay RRE is taking the first Downeaster out of Boston to Brunswick, then is getting transported to Sheepscot for an afternoon of touring, then returning to Boston on last Downeaster out of Brunswick.  I understand the trip is sold out.  All hands on deck!
