Great photos! At least you got the crates a little closer to North Vassalboro!

As a comparison to previous years, ridership (as measured by the conductor's report) about matches last year.

Someone pledged to match donations in the donation box dollar-for-dollar on Saturday, up to $250.  His match was completely met!  Additionally someone else gave us a very generous donation on Sunday.

I have heard nothing about the sales in the gift shop, or food, or the total amount of donations, but the total intake was the best we've had in years (as judged from the deposits in the bank today!).

I was talking to Zack earlier in the day about the odd shaped 'crates' he was making. They are actually concrete forms to make footings for the door posts on the new carbarn. He was less than excited about the task of making somewhat complex wooden boxes that would only be used once and then tossed, but was doing his usual excellent work regardless.

Little did he know that they would end up as the load for the photo freight and in countless pictures that will be seen around the world!

A wonderful photo essay of the freight operation.

A tip of my Kentucky Derby to all who helped bring it off.

Ira

Is that similar to the Kirwood/Kerwood Derby?

John M. -- are you sure you aren't thinking about Durwood Kirby?

Wayne,

It's a reference to a skit in Rocky and Bullwinkle. The skit is indeed a reference to Durwood Kirby. This is probably all before your time.  ;)

Ha. You flatter me. I was watching Rocky and Bullwinkle, back when television was a worthwhile endeavor. I don't even have one any more!

Folks,

Here are some additional images from last Saturday.   A few from regular operations and a whole bunch from the afternoon/evening photo freight.   The WW&F crew manages to out-do itself every year and this year was a doozy.   I can't imagine some of the cool things that will be possible when the 9 runs.

Awesome job gang!

Those are outstanding photos.
B&W may be period but I am a Technicolor guy.
