Dean sent me a couple pictures from the sawmill. This is most of the timbers for the walls.

Brendan, Looking forward to see how the timbers go together to build the walls. The sawmill had some good trees to turn into timbers.  Fred L. Kuhns

Looks like it may be a little heavier than the dairy car.

Mike, It is great to know that the water problem is history. The last of the footings for both the east and west walls are in place. The timbers are going up and looking forward to the roof trusses.  Thank again for progress reports.    Fred L. Kuhns

Progress as of Thursday 10/16/14.

The hole between the posts waiting to be stood up and the restrooms was the bottomless stump pit.

A couple of questions from an outsider looking in:

For the three track arrangement into the car barn, is there a plan to add another three way stub switch or is the plan for a more traditional ladder arrangement?

Realizing that the car barn is already larger than the WWFRy's current needs, is there land/space set aside should a need for lengthening the building become necessary in the future?

Hi Troy,

The plan is to have a traditional "ladder" track leading into the barn. The track will continue past the barn through the woods into the parking lot. That will give us a place to put things out of the way, and provide a convenient location for loading/unloading from our trailer.

The car barn (and roundhouse) will accommodate all anticipated rolling stock needs of the museum - it's big enough to store 6 passenger coaches (we currently have 3) or 9 freight cars (we currently have 5.) I suppose it could be extended south a little bit if we needed to. We also have the whole NW corner of our lot in Sheepscot that could potentially be developed if the need arose. However, getting track to that corner could be tricky.

Hello,

Ed's answer regarding the ladder track was correct as of this spring- but after our trusty track layout engineer Rick ran the math on the curves it turns out that another 3 way stub actially fits best- so that is our current plan.

See ya

People think that the goal is to rebuild the WW&F, but in reality everyone simply wants to revive the stub switch.  ::)

We could do a 3 way point switch...

A 3 way stub switch would be ideal and we have the experience building them.  Besides "yard limit" speed or less, so no need for "high speed" switch.

??? Fine, keep changing improving the plans.  ;)
Thanks for the correction, Jason.

While I have the floor...
I was wondering about the spacing between the tracks. I was thinking that the ideal spacing would be to put the East and West tracks as close as possible to their respective walls. This would leave maximum space between the middle track and the East and West tracks. This would allow visitors (or supervised guests) to walk through the barn and see the stored equipment.

I continue to be amazed by the scope of the work accomplished in such a short time! Great pictures!
I can't resist asking: would a discussion about stub switches be considered pointless?
