Anticipated work for May 17th:

* Ditching & Landscaping

* Passenger trains - first run would be 11:00 if there are riders.

* Track - Work on upper yard spur.

* #9

* Cellar - work on walls?

This Week -

* #9 - Jason and Jonathan worked a number of things including the vacuum brake system.

* Track - Some ties were lined up for extending track on the upper yard spur.

* R-O-W - Fred and Dwight cut weeds along the track.

* Restrooms - Zack worked on the exhaust fan system.

* Percival House - The north door was repaired and painted.

* Parking lot - Brendan removed the tree stumps and old wood from the area just west of the garage and it looks great cleared out.  The parking lot will be extended into this area for possible use by volunteers during the larger events when the general lot is needed for visitors.

Today, Dwight and I finished cutting the BRUSH on the former Clark land and we also cut up a few of the blow-downs. There's still more to be done there.

I predict that foot pedal will last about a year.  Maybe less.  Hopefully no visiting fireman will mistake it for an air-operated firebox door.

Foot pedal can be screwed off and a handle screwed in its place.  But it's above foot pedal... Eric Schade made it.  My concept- don't blame him for that!

I thought it was the dimmer switch....the No. 9 was built before they put them up on the steering column.

Work done on Saturday, May 17th:

* R-O-W - Despite heavy rain in the morning and drizzle most of the day, an 11:00am trip was operated so about a dozen members could tour the TOM land that was purchased.  Fred and Dwight's work clearing brush on Friday paid off and the area looks good.

* Restrooms - Zack worked on the exhaust fan system, running ductwork in the equipment room.

* Garage - Mike worked on the excavator.

* RC4 - Some maint was done to ready the car for service next weekend.

* Gift shop - Courtney cleaned the floor and sold a new membership, welcome Kyle!

Excavator repair was mainly replacement of the worn out ball joint that controls the up and down movement of the main boom. Anyone that watched it operate before may have noticed that trying to go up and down easy was not easy. But things are much better now. A lot safer for lifting and lowering. More discussion and ideas were tossed around for a hi-rail attachment.

My father and I have our car loaded up with patterns, and are ready to start the trek from Texas in the morning. Will there be any folks at the museum on Friday? If not, we'll look forward to seeing everyone this weekend.

I'm hoping to be there Friday afternoon to repair a splice in the magneto phone line near Cockeye Curve, but I would like some dry weather so as to not trap a lot of moisture when I wrap up the splice. The present forecast is a bit iffy. Bring rain gear and mud boots.
