Amherst 2014
« on: October 22, 2013, 08:14:10 PM »
Hi All,

Who is *definitely* going to the Amherst show in 2014? I need two volunteers who can represent the WW&F if the Amherst Railway Society should decide to grant us an award.

Please PM me or email ed@spongeawareness.com

Thanks,

-Ed

I hope to attend the Amherst show this year - of course, that depends on the weather cooperating.  We will be staying about an hour north of Springfield and I hope to be available Saturday and Sunday and possibly on Friday as well.  Do you have a sign up list for helping out at the regular booth and at the dairy car location?

Skip,

Not sure if anyone sent you a pm but there's no sign up sheet for the Big E, just show up and tell John you'd like to help.  You should have a WW&F denim shirt if you work the sales table.  If you don't have one John can help you.

As we all know, there has been much preparation for the Car 65 display.  Not as much in the news but just as important, the gift shop crew has put together a few surprises for the show.  Along with the regular fine items there will be some rare two-foot gems:

(1) The last WW&F Ry 25th anniversary green globe brakeman's lantern will be offered at $198.90

(2) A mint condition two volume set of Two Feet Between the Rails, first editions signed by Bob Jones, $525.00 pr.

(3) Ride the Sandy River book by Peter Cornwall and Jack Farrell, 1973.  Very good condition.  $125.00

(4) Special 1993 Hamilton Collection plate "By Sea or Rail by artist Ted Xaras.  This is plate #497A in the original container with it's Certificate of Authenticity.  The WW&F commemorative plate depicts WW&F locomotive #4 with train on the trestlework near the Turner Centre Creamery in Wiscasset.  The plates were fired from a 1992 Ted Xaras painting that was done when the artist heard that the WW&F was being rebuilt.  This is only the second #4 plate the gift shop has had in 20 years.  $95.00

Pretty good overview of 2/3rds of the Mallery Building one of four buildings being used for the show. There were people touring the car until almost 8 tonight. I think the car is going to be popular when the show opens to the public tomorrow.
