New discussion forum

Since it appears that the setbb forums are down for the count, I thought I'd start a new one.  This forum, as you can probably tell, is hosted off of the wwfry.org website.

I've tried to recreate the topics the way we had them, but of course I cannot get the old discussions we had.

I would imagine that once the setbb forums are back (if they come back) there would be a way to export the forum contents and import that back into the new forum. There was a lot of good information there and it would be a shame to lose it.

By all means go ahead, but I believe I recall reading somewhere that the moderators of the setbb forums charged money for the back ups.

Other Setbb's are working. MNGRR for example. Maybe ours got to popular and overloaded.

Actually, MNG's forum is hosted on www.phpbbserver.com - ours was hosted on www.setbb.com. If you Google "setbb forum down" you'll find all sorts of discussion forums that have suddenly disappeared.

As I understand it, there are a few places that will host discussion forums for "free" - settbb being one of them. They make money off of the adds that were at the top and bottom of each page. Now that the WW&F main web site is on a new server, James took this opportunity to create our own forum (forum.wwfry.org) so that we no longer have to rely on a free forum host. He also got updated forum software, and (because we host it ourselves) we no longer have eBay ads on the top and bottom of each page.

Did anyone get an email from the admin of the old forum letting them know about the new forum? I tried sending an "email blast" from the old forum to let everyone know about the change, but I have a feeling that it didn't go through.

Modified: 8/1/08: I resent the blast, this time using my own email account. I suspect that worked better.

Thanks, I figured the one from 10:00am this morning would go through - since I sent it from my email account rather than relying on setbb's email list system.

Ok. No need to keep adding "I got it" or "I didn't get it" to this topic. If you got the note, then you know about the change. If you didn't get the note, and you're reading this message, you found out about the change by one of the many other ways that it was announced.

I think this forum will take getting used to. The look will be the main thing, along with figuring the easiest way to tell what a new topic is.
