Kauai Plantation Railway in Hawaii
« on: April 02, 2010, 02:09:06 PM »
Hello, Just returned from a cruise to Hawaii. We stopped in four ports on four different islands, one of which was Kauai. Wish I could tell you more about this narrow gauge, but the tour to it was sold out before I found out about it. From the web site I know it is 3 foot gauge and about 2.5 miles long pulled currently by a 1939 diesel loco.  They are reconstructing two steam locos now. I've emailed the plantation telling them that our group of six could not get there from the port to at least get pix to bring back.  Wish I could have seen it. I'm going to try to list their web site and if successful you can wander around there and know as much as I do. Don't miss the HISTORY link.  Glenn                        http://www.kauaiplantationrailway.com/

folks,
i have visited this museum; no trains were running. but it is a great place to learn about  sugar plantation life in the Island.

the restaurant serves lunch in the smae type of tinware that they used to take out into the fields.
