Bird's nest sidelines WHR Garratt

Pioneer Garratt K1 has been out of service in recent weeks because a blackbird has built a nest in the space between the front buffer and the mechanical lubricator…

Fortunately there haven't been many trains requiring 'intermediate' power in the past couple of months - the big NG/G16s have been working the service, assisted by the Funkey diesels when necessary (ie when the fire risk is at red or red/red and it's necessary to limit any tendency of the coal-burners to throw sparks)
