All,

I am calling attention to, and congratulating, Stephen Hussar for a well deserved second place finish in the recently held Center for Railroad Photography & Art’s “A Story in Three Photographs” contest.

Follow the link above and click on his name to see the entries.
He has combined some of my favorite elements; steam, man, night, and black & white; all three taken at the WW&F last year.

2-foot narrow gauge steam is alive and well through the viewfinder of his camera.
Thank you for sharing your talents, and keep doing what you’re doing!

Matthew;
Thank you for posting the great news. Steve is far too modest to ever do it himself. Now the rest of the railroad world knows of the WW&F's photographer which is what we've known for a long time.
Congratulations Steve!!!!

Yes, indeed. It appears that Stephen has inherited the mantle of O. Winston Link. Well done!

To quote the judge's comment, "This set is arguably the most professionally done. The composition and lighting is by far the best of any set. It tells a clear story in a very dramatic way."

Right on!  Congratulations, Stephen - well deserved!

-John

p.s. I don't understand the first picture in the 1st Place set. It looks like something pulled the emulsion off the print. I've had that happen  :'(

Way to go Steve!

John, I think the image in the first picture is on the side of the tank seen in the second picture.  If you look close you can see it.

Proof once again that Stephen is a true lense artist.

I shutter every time I see Stephen's work.
I see he has developed a fine entry.
Seriously,
CONGRATULATIONS

I'd like to offer my "Thank YOU!" to Stephen for his dedication to recording and spreading the story of the WW&F Ry. We are indebted to volunteers like Stephen whose talent and skills make the museum what it is.
And, FWIW, IMHO, and all that, I really disagree with the selection for the first place pictures. They are interesting, but not terrifically so, and don't really tell much of a story. The first picture in that series is unusuall, but otherwise unremarkable, especially so in the context of a railroad themed story.
Stephen's pictures have much more to say, information to present, atmosphere to invoke, and detail to ponder. Are they staged? Of course, as was Link's, Hasting's, and other giants of the steam era.
They are first place in my book, by a lot~!

Plainly, the only thing left for Stephen to do is to take lots more great pictures! Eventually, the judges will see the light/steam!

Gawdon, I second ALL your statements! You said it better than I ever could have.
