It was built as an amusement train about 40 years ago. Go to their web site for the history. They have some interesting 2' steam engines, including a 2' Mallet.

There is a link to the CC&V from the WW&F website (the links page).

I visited railroad and the town of Cripple Creek when I was out in Colorado 8 years ago.  The town was basically an excuse for gambling casinos.  Not too different I suppose from 100 years ago when people gambled to find gold in the ground, now they gamble to find gold in a machine.

;D Now that is one phrase I like. I'll have to try to remember that one. But unfortunately I have a memory like Hoover Dam. Stuff comes in, lingers for a while, then flows out, with little chance of getting it back.

Mike,
Not only do
I like James' phrase but yours on the Hoover Dam as well. I resemble that! Now if I could only remember it the next time I could use it...

The voters of Colorado just passed a change allowing the three gambling towns to vote on raising bets from $5 to $100, remaining open 24 hours and adding roulette and craps to the mix. The bulk of the increased revenue will go the community colleges with the balance to the communities, Cripple Creek, Central City and Blackhawk. The latter two adjacent  towns are famous, for some of us, as the home of the Gilpan Tram, a 2' railway connecting the mines in the area and powered primarily by Shay locomotives.

The Cripple Creek & Victor website seems to be no more. I have tried several different references and still get the same error message.

Mike,
I found that site too but it is not the railroad's site. It is the Cripple Creek Tourism site.

It might just be that they're re-building their website. Here's their email address: ccvngrr@aol.com

I do know that some of the engines there are from Gremany but are there any steam engines there that once worked on the original 2 foot Cripple Creek & Victor railroad? ??? :)

Matt,  There never was an original 2 ft there.  It was 3 foot till abandond.  Rebuilt as a tourist line to the 2 foot gauge and engines brought in to populate the roster.

Tom C.

PS as a bad speller myself,  I hate to point out errors but I can't miss a cheap shot.  You missed original.

I knew that there was a 3 foot line on the Cripple Creek & Victor but I thought that the 2 foot line was also original.

I believe that the CC&VRR is built on the standard gauge Midland Terminal right of way.
