Can we get any kind of report on the meeting, what was discussed?

Cosmos brings up an interesting point about board meeting minutes.  Is there or should there be a summary of the meeting minutes posted anywhere?  Just a summary, i.e., items discussed and resolution of those items.

Ken, that would be relatively easy to do as they have a summary of the last meeting at the current meeting. But whether or not this is something the board would like to do is entirely up to them.

Meeting minutes are considered by the board to be entirely accessible to members- as the members own the organization.  I've started a discussion with the board and our forum leaders about a possible member's section.  Not meant as a secretive measure- just a member's perk.  The W&Q meeting mainly addressed specific issues such as executing crossing rights, some insurance details and rental rates.

Regards,
Jason

As a twice a year volunteer and contributor, I would be thrilled to see a members-only section on this discussion site where we could view a digest of board meetings and other communications.

This is something I have been pushing for for several years.
We are not a secret society.
This should be a members only site. My 2 cents worth.

Thanks Jason,
I mean only to prompt, not pester. ;)
But I'm curious as to if "crossing rights" refers to property (other than WW&F owned) or to road/highways or both?

Road crossings, as we have several private crossings.  Details, really- but we were pleased to have a productive meeting.

Personally, I prefer the idea of keeping the majority of the WW&F discussion forum open to anyone interested in the WW&F, regardless of membership in the museum. I know I became interested in the WW&F by following the frequent progress postings that James releases quarterly on the main web site... long before I became a member or active volunteer. (I suspect many of us share a similar story.) I consider the Discussion Forum an extension of this very effective "PR" tool among railroad hobbyists, enthusiasts, historians, modelers, etc.

That having been said, I would certainly be in favor of creating a new section (or restricting a current one) such that its contents can only be viewed by current members of the WW&F museum. This would be considered one of the benefits of being an active member of the WW&F Museum.

As Jason noted, there is a discussion starting about this amongst the BOD members. I await their decision and will set things up in whatever configuration they deem appropriate (if any.)

Several museums - PA Trolley Museum, Lynton & Barnstaple Railway, to name two - have members only sections from their website for things such as corporate news, crew sign-up sheets, etc.

Possibly there could be a Members Only section of the website (James, I hope this would be more work for you!) instead of from the Discussion Forum.

Just my two cents' worth.

I think from a technology stand point, it would make more sense to base the member-only section from the website.  I think our hosting site has modules that we can plug in to make it work, without trying to figure it out on our own.  I'm a great believer in not trying to re-invent the wheel if someone has already done it.

You mean the wheel has been invented already?!? :o Darn! All those years.. :-[ And now I have to invent something else... Hmmm... Fire! :o Now that looks promising.

Despite the warning, at the top of this thread, that its been over 120 days since last posting.  That's exactly why I am trying to bring it back to life.  What ever happened to posting the minutes of BOD meetings or at least summary thereof?  Sunshine?

I think I can safely say that nobody is working on it right now, in part because it's been forgotten.
