The CEO of Row-Mow Mfg. (and Mechanique Extraordinaire) modestly did not mention the most important improvement to date on Big Joe: A plush, genuine faux leather, double wide seat mounted at an appropriately lofty height for the Supreme High Commander to direct Big Joe  in comfort and safety. There's even room within for a beverage cooler !

Rumor has it that a full width cab, stereo, and A/C are next.

Thank you Brendan!!!
I have several new scars on my head from running into the roof overhanging the generator while I was installing and removing the battery last weekend. I'm sure that a few brain and skin cells will be saved by this.

Whimsical Weirdness and Foolery / Re: John Hodgman on Hobos...
« on: January 08, 2013, 01:15:16 PM »
I've not found John Hodgman to be particularly witty. His humor escapes me, usually it's not very clever and is forced. He was the uncool Microsoft nerd in the Apple vs. Microsoft ads a few years ago.
John Oliver, on the other hand, has come up with some bits that seriously tickle me.

Mike,
Can you describe the crank handle you need for Ichabod?

Square hole size
Handle length
Handle offset (if necessary or not)

Maybe someone has one out there that is similar enough that it could be modified.

Museum Discussion / Re: 2012 Fund Drive progress
« on: December 31, 2012, 11:12:07 AM »
I am personally grateful to all of you who support the museum both with your hard work and your hard earned money. It couldn't happen without 'viewers like you' as they say, and  your continued enthusiasm and faith in our organization means that this rebuilding of Maine 2 foot gauge railroading will keep rolling along.

The stage we are creating in the Maine woods draws us together and makes real those timeless pictures that captured our imaginations. These images, experiences, and memories, like those from Victorian Christmas, are why we do this.

Your generosity makes our dreams possible.

Thank you!

Bravo Mike! Sounds like it was a rousing success.
Losing a few nuts and bolts isn't too much of a setback. I had a snowblower once that used to shake itself to pieces and I'd spend as much time putting it back together as blowing snow.  The vibration of a gas engine is pretty tough on threaded fastenings.

To all the great people at the WW&F:

You have all given yourselves and many, many others a wonderful gift of your time and dedication to make events like Victorian Christmas possible and create the images and memories of not only what was, but what is today and will be in the future as well.  Know that your efforts have done that which no company or government agency could ever do. For all of us, our kids, our grandchildren and generations to come, this is a true family which is creating a very important legacy.

To those who capture the scenes and spread them around the world, thank you for your talent and enthusiasm.

To those who support the physical efforts with your donations, thank you, thank you, thank you.

To Harry and all of those through the past 2+ decades who aren't here to see lifelong dreams to come true, thank you.

And to all a good night,  with dreams of a completely new TCDA boxcar and shiny #9 going together in 2012 dancing in our heads!!

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year!!

A long time ago. but not far away...
