I don't think the tipcar has been used since we replaced the culvert north of our yard limit.  I'm guessing that year would have been 2001 or thereabouts.

Mike and I were discussing on the way back to Maine this afternoon.  I think it's safe to say that ROWMOW Mfg isn't terribly interested in that project. :D

If you have the DVD Riding the Maine Two Footers vol 1, filmed by Gus Pratt, there are some color scenes in Wiscasset and outside, including some water scenes.  I can't recall myself what the water color is, but in one scene somebody is swimming.

Softwood trees in Maine tend to be pine or spruce, hardwoods maple or oak.

Anticipated work for weekend of January 26, 2013:

* This weekend is the Amherst Railway Society train show at the Big E in West Springfield, MA.  The WW&F will be well represented.  Set up is Friday evening, and teardown late Sunday afternoon.  Drop in and say hi (and please buy something).
* Meanwhile, back at Sheepscot, there will be a skeleton crew.  Probably work on #9, perhaps a little bit of work on the restrooms.

Work done on Saturday Jan 19:

* Restrooms: Zack continued piping, and installed the gas heater for the hot water.  Steve Z and Dave B sanded the walls.
* Trees: Several trees were cut, and after several false starts we got a fire going.  The trees were by the future car barn, with some leaning trees by the spur also cut.
* #9: Jason had several minions working under him: lathe work, drilling, measuring, etc.
* Rail: Two lengths of rail were dug out of the light snow and moved to the end of track, for someone to pick up later.
* Show prep: John R and Bob C were loading up boxes from the gift shop for the Springfield show, which is next weekend.

Anticipated work for Saturday Jan 19:

* Restrooms: Plumbing (which is Zack's job), not sure if there's other stuff that can be done or not.
* Tree cutting: There's some trees near the site of the future car barn that need to be felled, plus a few around the edge of the parking lot.
* #9

Probably 2.5 to 3 Henschels would equal (lengthwise anyway) one #11, from coupler to coupler

Today was a short day because several of us went to attend the talk on the Eagle Lake and West Branch at Owl's Head.

* Restrooms: Zack and Stewart mounted the cold water tanks, and Zack installed the first copper pipe.
* Crane: Mike puttered around gathering materials to create the mount for a counterweight.
* #9: The drivers got primer paint.
* Switches: Brendan loaded a trailer with rails which will become closure rails and frogs, thanks to Dave C and Wayne.

Whimsical Weirdness and Foolery / Re: Narrow gauge rail bus

A picture from Ken Fleming.  I think this also may have been shown on the NGDF.

Quote
The real point is the ATV with flanged (Fairmont?) wheels.  I believe this is on 36"gauge.  Would this make a great track foreman vehicle?
A smaller ATV, some wheels and a pin to lock steering.  Easy set on/off with limited off-rail travel.

Work done on Saturday Jan 5:

* Restrooms: the sheetrock in the men's and women's rooms are done, as is the outside hall.  The interior hall (between the bathrooms) has to be done on the ceiling and on the back wall.
* #10: The engine was cleaned out, hydro'd, and then the water was dumped out.
* Gift shop: Linda and I finished up the inventorying.
* Plow: The diesel plowed out the yard, thanks to the crane car plucking the plow from the front and moving to the back, then putting back in the front.

That's right #10 clean out is happening this weekend.  I knew that too.  I'll change the post.

It's the annual time of year to compile all of the volunteer hours.  If anybody has any off-site hours they'd like to claim (for grant writing, committee work, administrative duties, or any other reason), please back channel me with the details.
