Title: Matthew Gustafson's Spelling/Typos
Post by: Ed Lecuyer on December 23, 2008, 01:46:25 PM
Hi All,

Matt recently disclosed to me (privately) the reason why he has so many spelling errors and typos in his posts. While it is not laziness, or anything medical, he has a valid excuse.

The situation is supposed to be rectified sometime after Christmas. In the meantime, I have agreed to fix his spelling errors and typos - if I catch them.

I thank everyone for their patience and understanding.

-Ed

I'd like to thank Matt for stirring up so much interest in the Forum. Before his arrival, there were long dry periods.

Matt,

Why don't you just install the Google Toolbar in your browser? It comes with a built in spell checker. You can find it here:

Ah, but one of the great failings of spell checker programs is their lack of assistance concerning usage. How many postings have you seen on all forums (not just ours) that confuse there-they're-their, to-too-two,  here-hear, brake-break, your-you're, etc.?

Guilty as charged. Is it i before e accept after c and those that end in Y? Spell check usually catches those for me. Then I do the Homer Simpson. DOH!!!

Matt is not using a standard Internet browser. That's the issue.

I guess we should not be too hard on Matthew he is still young and can learn. As for myself i'm 58 years old and have never been any good at spelling. Some of us are just not good at spelling.

While spelling and grammatical errors can be a bit frusrating for some readers, I tend to agree with John. Matt's generous amount of postings has definitely resulted in more forum activity.  That's good.  That's really what the forum is all about: communicating.  The gist of what's written is ultimately what matters most. Surely we can overlook a few typos.
