« on: April 04, 2018, 11:05:08 AM »
Anticipated work for Saturday April 7:

* Boxcar 67
* Loco 10 boiler
* SWW prep
* Possible tree cutting for west parking lot (depends on outcome of research)

Additionally there's a ham & bean supper at the Alna Fire Department at 4:30.  Yum yum!

Let's hold off on the tree cutting. We need to mark it out, and I would like to save some trees between the two lots.

Crew call:  track repair Wednesday April 11, 2018.

We need to make a repair to the north end of Cock Eye Curve.  This work was going to wait till late in or after SWW but an inspection today moved it up the priority list.

A crew of 6-8 would allow the repair to be made properly in the course of 5-6 hours.

If you can join us, please let us know.

Also, if you have access to a heavy duty chain come along, it’d be very helpful.

Joe will follow up...

Thanks
Jason

I can borrow one of Dad's chain come alongs. I plan on arriving around 8 a.m. Wednesday to start loading tools, etc. I have a list of tools we will need such as, rail saw, rail drill, (8 pairs of Joint bars that I will grab that morning), bolts, spikes, claw bars, wrenches, and spike mauls. Joint bars are not really needed, but while things are apart we might as well change out a few worn ones.

Work done on Saturday April 7:

* West parking lot: Mike, myself, and a few others walked around the west side of our property, and Mike tied off ribbons for the limit of the cutting work.
* Air compressor: Jay was busy making mounting bracket holes, in order to keep the compressor in one spot, and also working on other aspects of the car.  The hydro storage tank and bracket was moved back into place.
* Bay 1 re-arranging: Alan started moving things around and consolidating boiler items in Bay 1, to make room for another machine which will be arriving next week.
* Inspection trip: Several of us made an inspection trip to the SWW work site, then made a trip to the north side of Cockeye Curve, hence Jason's call for a work crew.

Alna VFD ham & bean supper was good...

Kubota was started this afternoon and a ditch cleaned out, getting the machine ready for next weekend.

Work done Wednesday, 4/11/18. Jason and Johnathon worked on joint bars, while the track crew fixed almost half of the North end of Cockeyed Curve today. After lunch Jason came out to help with the second half of todays work load. We religned two joints, replaced 2 ties, and repositioned 4 rails, or 126' of track. One more day of repositioning rails, and a few more religning of a few joints and the North end of the curve will be very nice.

Thank you to all who helped today, it was appreciated, especially as we started getting tired towards the end and Brendan and Steve P showed up to help button things up.

Ha!

Seeing the photos, I was thinking my first work weekend experience was the spring of 2001, when the track was extended north from here to Sheepscot Mills crossing.  Early March April, mud and snow season -- the best of both worlds!

More than a little progress has been made since then.

I didn't touch any joint bars that weekend, so any kinked joints weren't my fault!
